Real Estate Business
No matter how much you've invested in the equipment or acquisition of new technologies, it is eventually the employees that help a business grow. All kinds of plans will ultimately fail if the employees were not up to it. Real estate businesses are no exception, hire the right persons and the business is all set to thrive, make wide off the mark hiring decisions and the business is destined to go down. If you are in business for some time, it may not be a problem to pick out the right guys, since you'll be aware of the responsibilities, type of market and customers by now. However, it becomes a little tricky when you are hiring for the first time. Following guidelines will help you in hiring employees for real estate business.
Knowing what you are hiring for - You cannot even think of hiring the right person unless you are completely au fait with the duties and responsibilities for the post in question. Many times, managers hire people because they were impressed with their presentation skills, whereas the job had no such requirements. Knowing the job inside out helps you to focus on the right set of skills and qualities. In addition to this, you will ask more to-the-point questions instead of asking the routine ones. On the other hand, if during interviews for a particular job, you come across a person who is noticeably talented but doesn't fit in that particular position, do not discard. Instead forward his/her credential to human resource department and ask them to find a suitable position.
Keep your expectations in check - Don't expect people applying for entry level jobs to show the confidence and enthusiasm of management level staff. Keep your expectations in check or you will end up rejecting some good prospects just because they were not confident enough or because they were nervy during the interview. A greenhorn or anybody who's in desperate need of a job can get nervous during interviews. That isn't necessarily an indication of the lack of strength or determination in the overall personality. Be prepared to keep sifting through the applicants unless you can find the right person. Do not hastily hire an inapt person just because you were tired of the hiring process. When hiring, do not make discriminatory decisions (hiring people on the base of their race, gender or caste). Not only is it illegal as well as unethical, it is also going to hurt your business badly in the longer run.
